I’m not really sure. I’ll be there all day, taking turns reading from Matthew, Acts, and Revelations and just filling in wherever needed. We’re playing it by ear, because we’ve never done this before. We think we will be able to get through the whole New Testament. Full story »

Not really. This is my hobby, garden railroading—building a model railroad outside. You use dwarf plants and other landscaping materials to create a landscape, all in a scale. A big portion of the hobby is training plants, like bonsai. Full story »

No, Scottish. My family’s been here for 200 years or so now, we’re one of the first families of Tennessee. But my wife Susan and I spent two winters in Paris in the Saint-Germain-des-Pres, and there was this one crepe shop at the Notre-Dame-des-Champs Metro stop—it was a stand, really, and it always had a line of people waiting around the corner. We were doing steel sculpture at the time, traveling to art shows, and we always said if we ever had our own gallery, we’d serve crepes like that street vendor Full story »

People donate new gift items, and people who need help for Christmas come in starting December 1 and put items in layaway for their families—not just for children, men and women, too. The items don’t have dollar prices. We do a point system, 10, 20 per item. Then we assign the shoppers community service, and instead of being given money, they’re given points per hour for their layaways. Full story »

No, actually it’s a special variety—Carolina Cross—and even if you just put ’em in your normal garden and let them grow they would still produce a 60-70 pound melon. For one that’s 180 pounds or better, it takes about 300 square feet per plant—and just one fruit per plant. It’s a gamble. “Am I cutting off the winning one?” Full story »

I’m trying to think just how many millions, but there will definitely be some that will be millions of years old. Trilobites would be one, fossils from the Paleozoic era. They can be 400 or 500 million years old. Full story »

We did see some trash along the waterline and in the water, but we saw some good signs, too—lots of water birds, blue heron. I’m not sure if I saw... a kingfisher? It was a diving bird, and we saw ducks, coots... Full story »
